All Lakeside residents and guests (including men) are invited to attend the Tuesday programs at 1:30 pm at Green Gables, the Victorian cottage home of the Lakeside Women's Club located at 161 Walnut Avenue. Check the weekly Lakesider for further details.

Eleanor Durr, A Lakeside Historian

You will be inspired as you learn of the impact that Eleanor Durr, a year-round resident of Lakeside for half a century, had on her community and the entire peninsula.

 

WEEK 2 (July 3)

Finding Peace and Freedom on the Appalachian Trail

Speaker:  Paul V. Stutzman

When he lost his wife to breast cancer, Mennonite Paul decided to make some big changes. He quit his job of 17 years as manager of an Amish restaurant and set out on a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, 2,176 miles.

We all know about Abigail Adams, wife of our second U.S. President, but very little about her daughter-in-law, Louisa Catherine Adams, whose life was equally interesting if not more so.

Learn how residents of Wooster, Ohio, have set up a local producer/consumer cooperative, which encourages healthy eating, expands local economic development, and promotes community involvement and sustainable living.

Ikebana: The Art of Japanese Flower Arranging

Ikebana, the Japanese word for flower arrangement, is based upon certain principles which are recognized the world over. Watch an expert demonstrate.

 

WEEK 6 (July 31)

What’s It Worth?
Speaker: Amelia Jeffers
President and co-owner of Garth Auctioneers and Appraisers of Delaware, Ohio (internationally recognized experts in arts, antiques and collectibles), will give tips on how to determine the value of items you may want to sell or buy.

 

WEEK 7 (August 7)

A View from the Stage
Performer:  Katherine Bracy
Relax at Green Gables to the sound of a harp played by a longtime professional musician and Lakeside Symphony Orchestra (LSO) member. Get to know other members of the LSO and musicians who will drop in.

 

WEEK 8 (August 14)

LWC Luncheon, Installation of Officers & Program

Seeing Through Paintings
Speaker:  Rustin Levenson, Art Restoration Associates President and Founder

Following the luncheon and installation of officers, a recognized author and expert in the field of art restoration will present an illustrated lecture on the techniques of preserving and restoring priceless works of art.

Corsets, Crinolines, and Cravats: Civil War Fashion

An illustrated talk on the interesting history of men’s and women’s clothing worn during the Civil War period.
