Start in Fountain Inn Aigler Room
March 24, 2012
9:30 am
The Lakeside Environmental Stewardship Society and the Lakeside Tree Advisory Team are presenting a Young Tree Training Workshop at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 24. The workshop will start in the Fountain Inn Aigler Room and conclude by mid-afternoon.
The workshop will be led by Stephanie Miller, Regional Urban Forester for NW Ohio, Ohio Division of Forestry. Classroom instruction will be given on proper pruning techniques and young tree training, followed by practical experience of supervised pruning on younger trees in Lakeside.
Urban foresters recommend that young trees be trained (pruned) five times in the first 15 years following planting. This training helps to form the desired shape for the tree; promotes proper branching and trunk structure; and eliminates the need for more extensive, and expensive, pruning later in the tree’s life.
If you have your own pruning tools, bring them; tools will also be provided for use. Dress appropriate for the weather as most of the workshop will be outdoors. If you plan to participate, or desire more information, contact Bill Smith at (330) 608-6836 or walrusandwife@roadrunner.com.
