The 60th Anniversary of Lakeside's Barbershop Quartet Festival will feature:

The Singing Buckeyes

The Singing Buckeyes, an a cappella men’s chorus, is part of the national Barbershop Society and performs regularly in central Ohio.  Working with new and timeless arrangements, The Singing Buckeyes are currently performing Frank Sinatra classics, inspirational tunes, and much more.

Since its inception in 1950, the quartet has offered the finest four-part harmonies to its audiences from a mix of Ray Charles’ tunes, to a set including “Mr. Cellophane,” with the chorus dressed as bums.  The Singing Buckeyes combine character, choreography and harmony to put the audience over the top.

Cadillac Jack

In the summer of 2008, four men from four very different quartet experiences decided to join and test a new combination of voices.  While each man had been out of the quartet scene for awhile, all were patiently waiting for the right combination to come along.  Ranging from international medalist to district competitors, these four individual singers had been at the forefront of the Johnny Appleseed District (JAD) with other quartet combinations.  Wanting to combine musical experience, work ethic and a strong bond of friendship, Richard Brooks, Steve Kovach, Michael Harrison and Carl Cash, III decided that this was the combinations they had been longing for, and Cadillac Jack was born.

The foursome competed in its very first quartet competition in October of 2008, at the JAD competition, located in Columbus.  After several months, and a few coaching sessions from mentor Daryl Flinn, Cadillac Jack was able to achieve the honor of winning the competition, and being named the 2008 JAD Quartet Champions.

Test of Time

Though reasonably young in quartet years (two and a half years as a quartet), Test of Time singers are anything but novices in the barbershop hobby.  Tenor Gary Wulf is a three-time District Champion lead singer, a certified judge in the Presentation category, and long-time artistic coach for The Singing Buckeyes.  Don Pullins amazes audiences by singing lead in the quartet.  Baritone Glen Spangler had been a perennial “front row” face for The Singing Buckeyes while handling the role as chorus manager.  Bass Mark Stock once directed The Singing Buckeyes.

With more than 100 years of barbershop experience, this quartet presents a full, warm and rich sound for crowds.  In January 2009 the quartet was honored to earn fifth place bronze medals at the society’s International Seniors Quartet Competition in Pasadena, Calif.  Most importantly, Test of Time simply enjoys singing with each other.
