Volunteering

Volunteering at Lakeside is a rewarding and life-changing experience in many ways.  You can become a part of the Lakeside community by volunteering through many of the Chautauqua pillars - religion, education, cultural arts and recreation.  "The best part about the Lakeside experience is that Lakesiders love giving back to the community they cherish," explains Shirley Stary, VP of Programming.

Lakesiders give their precious time by volunteering as Hoover greeters for evening programs, Sunday morning church ushers, C. Kirk Rhein, Jr. Center for the Living Arts instructors and registration crew, education seminar lecturers, shuttle drivers and gardeners.  Read below to find out other ways to volunteer.  If these opportunities interest you, we encourage you to download a Volunteer Application and return it to the Lakeside Chautauqua Foundation at 236 Walnut Avenue, Lakeside, OH.

Lakeside Fund Team Volunteer

The Lakeside Fund Team invites you to consider volunteering time and energy to raise financial gifts for the Lakeside Fund.  Each year this fund supports the Chautauqua pillars - religion, education, cultural arts and recreation.  Lakeside Fund Team volunteers are encouraged to make visits, phone calls and send personal emails to share what Lakeside means, how the Chautauqua community nurtures families, and how important the vision of Lakeside is for future generations.  Your involvement adds vibrancy into the Lakeside Fund drive.

Please consider a generous gift of your time for five, 10 or 20 hours or more to share your story and the importance of the Lakeside Fund.  To learn more about this volunteer opportunity, contact advancement@lakesideohio.com or call 419.798.5396.

C. Kirk Rhein, Jr. Center for the Living Arts

Do you have a special gift of art, writing or culture to share with others in the Lakeside community?  We invite you to consider joining the Rhein Center team and instruct classes or assist in registration each week. To teach a class, contact Rhein Center Director Juliann Breting Rohn at 304.280.1583 or rheincenter@lakesideohio.com.

Lakeside Leadership Academy Community Program

Another way to stay active during the Chautauqua summer season is by becoming a part of the new Community Program through Lakeside Leadership Academy (LLA), in which  a group Lakesiders are willing to meet with college student interns while they live and work in the community.  They meet during the summer to discuss professional aspirations.  Megan Staton, LLA Class of 2008, explains, "If there is anything the Lakeside Leadership Academy should continue in the future, it is pairing interns with mentors in the community.  My mentors were like my parents away from home."  Both mentors and interns grow in many ways and enrich the Chautauqua community each season.  Review the 2010 Community Program packet to see how you can help.  For more information, contact advancement@lakesideohio.com.

Love, Lakeside

Another way to volunteer is to join the Love, Lakeside group that meets at 12 pm every Tuesday in the Lakeside Association Advancement Office.  This group is dedicated to writing personal letters and thank you notes to Lakesiders who do not have the opportunity to experience the Chautauqua community during the summer.  To volunteer, contact advancement@lakesideohio.com.

Lakesider Newspaper Editing Committee

Do you have experience in journalism and editing?  A group of Lakesiders gather every Tuesday afternoon during the Chautauqua summer season to edit the weekly Lakesider newspaper.  This group is dedicated to releasing a quality newspaper which acts as a calendar of events for the week.  For more information, contact lakesider@lakesideohio.com.

Hoover Greeter

Monday-Saturday, volunteers greet and count Lakesiders attending the evening performance. If you wish to volunteer from 7:30-9 pm on one of these evenings during the Chautauqua season, please contact Shirley Stary, vice president of Programming, at sstary@lakesideohio.com.
