In this interactive program for all ages, learn about Ohio fishing regulations, necessary equipment, types of bait, species of Lake Erie fish and what to do with invasive gobies. Class will occur rain or shine, unless the Dock is closed due to weather conditions.
Children ages 12 & under must be accompanied by an adult. Non-swimmers are encouraged to wear a life jacket on the Dock. Ages 16+ must have a valid Ohio Fishing License to participate.
RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT
- Fishing Poles: 1 short pier pole for catching Gobies and 1-2 poles for Sheepshead
- Bait: Regular worms can be purchased at Sypherd’s Cycles or the Lakeside Sailing Center. Small red worms are sold at Walmart in Port Clinton
- Hooks:10 very small hooks for Gobies and 10 large hooks for Sheepshead (bass-size hooks)
- Weights: 1 bag or small box of heavy fish weights, approximately the size of an adult fingernail
WHAT FISH MAY BE CAUGHT?
The class will start off by catching Gobies with small pier poles and red worms. Next, participants will use the Gobies as bait on larger poles with large hooks and heavy weights. Participants may catch Bluegill, Sunfish, Perch, Catfish, Bass and Sheepshead. View Ohio Fishing Regulations.
