Port Clinton resident Ernie Hopkins will share stories of his time in Vietnam.
Hopkins was born and raised in Port Clinton, Ohio. In December 1969, a birthday lottery was held for draft notices for the Vietnam War. Hopkins received his draft notice in January 1970 and enlisted in the United States Army on Feb. 17, 1970. He completed basic training at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Oklahoma. After 13 days back home, Hopkins left for his assignment in Vietnam. He returned to Port Clinton on Sept. 22, 1971, and had finished his military service.
