Lakeside welcomes Anthony T. Parker, longtime Senior Pastor of Rhema Fellowship Church in Cleveland, as the Preacher of Gospel Music Week from May 31-June 4.
On Sunday, May 31, Parker will lead the 10:30 a.m. Hoover Worship Service. Musical leadership will be offered by Michael Shirtz and the Chautauqua Choir, with liturgy led by Rev. Kimberly Orr, Lakeside’s Director of Religion.
Parker‘s sermon is titled "I Walk with Christ" and is also his theme for the week. He will also lead Vespers by the Lake at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Steele Memorial Bandstand and Faith for Living Hour at 9 a.m. Monday-Thursday in Orchestra Hall.
Following the opening prayer, children ages 5–11 will proceed together to Bradley Temple for Children’s Church with Chip Richter, where they’ll enjoy a kid-friendly message, songs, crafts, lemonade and cookies. Preschoolers are welcome when accompanied by an adult.
Immediately following the Hoover Worship Service, guests have an opportunity to receive Holy Communion. Communion will be served to those seated in the front rows of the center section.
Parker answered the call to the ministry at age 12. He faithfully served under the leadership of his father, the late Superintendent Eddie Tyes Parker, Jr., at the Parker Memorial Church of God in Christ, until his father’s retirement. He then served as an assistant to his brother, Pastor Eddie Tyes Parker, III, founder of “The Word Church” of God in Christ of Greater Cleveland, now known as Rhema Fellowship Church.
Parker is the Magistrate for the Village of North Randall Mayor’s Court, President of the ATP Legal Group, LLC, and Personal Bailiff to Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas Judge Cassandra Collier-Williams.
A former U.S. Congressional page for Congressman Louis Stokes, Parker is the founder of R.H.E.M.A. Y.E.S., Inc., a nonprofit ministry that provides financial and mentoring support to high school and college students and adopts elementary schools, introducing young scholars to professionals from various fields who motivate them to succeed. He is also the founder of Youth for Holiness: A Faith-Based Mentorship Program and Youth Ministry, which has awarded over $20,000 in scholarship funds to college students.
Parker serves as Vice President of the Board of Trustees of the Cleveland Public Library, the Advisory Board of the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Summer Legal Academy, the Board of Directors of Roots of American Music, and the Cuyahoga Community College Interfaith Advisory Council.
He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in religious studies (pastoral counseling) from John Carroll University, his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and an Honorary Doctor of Divinity from the Christian International Bible College.
