Tory Gabriel from Ohio Sea Grant Extension (OHSG) will give a talk on the "Fish of Lake Erie."
Gabriel is the Extension Program Leader for Ohio Sea Grant and serves as fisheries educator. His responsibilities include managing and providing programmatic direction for the Extension side of OHSG, while also focusing on research, education, and outreach related to Lake Erie’s sustainable fisheries.
Gabriel engages with a wide range of Lake Erie stakeholders and often works with sport-fishing groups, such as charter captains and fishing associations. Youth education is also a key component of his programming, helping build the next generation of Lake Erie stewards.
Major outreach efforts include the annual Ohio Charter Captains Conference, 4-H Sea Camp on Kelleys Island, the Lake Erie Sport Fishing course at Stone Lab and hands-on workshops at youth events covering sport fishing and aquatic biology. He’s also involved in field research on fish populations for several wetland restoration projects in the Lake Erie watershed.
Gabriel offers presentations on Lake Erie’s critical issues, including the prevention of aquatic invasive species. He recommends always cleaning, draining and drying all boats, trailers and equipment used in water, and never releasing aquatic pets, plants or bait.
