Date & Time

Sunday June 7, 2026

10:30 am - 11:30 am

Lakeside welcomes Bishop Rodolfo A. “Rudy” Juan, retired United Methodist bishop from the Philippines, as the Preacher of Interfaith Week June 7-11. This week’s preacher is generously supported by Steve & Jane Anderson

On June 7, Juan will lead the 10:30 a.m. Chautauqua Community Worship Service in Hoover Auditorium. Musical leadership will be offered by Michael Shirtz and the Chautauqua Choir, with liturgy led by Rev. Kimberly Orr, Lakeside’s Director of Religion. Juan’s sermon, "By Grace, We are Healed and Restored," is based on Matthew 9: 9-13, 18-26. He will also lead Vespers by the Lake at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Steele Memorial Bandstand and Faith for Living Hour at 9 a.m. Monday-Thursday in Orchestra Hall.

Following the opening prayer, children ages 5–11 will proceed together to Bradley Temple for Children’s Church with Chip Richter, where they’ll enjoy a kid-friendly message, songs, crafts, lemonade and cookies. Preschoolers are welcome when accompanied by an adult.

Juan was born into the United Methodist Church in a farming community in northern Philippines, where his grandparents were pillars of the UMC in the province. He served the denomination for 41 years and retired as a Bishop two years ago. He says he’s blessed to have served in all three Episcopal areas in the Philippines for over 14 years (the Baguio Episcopal Area, the Manila Episcopal Area and the Davao Area).

Juan pursued his theological education in both the Philippines and the U.S., and served as a parish minister for 13 years. I also had the opportunity to serve my country as a military chaplain for 14 years.

As a Bishop, Juan serves on the Board of Trustees of Philippine Christian University and is a former Chair of his alma mater, Union Theological Seminary.

Juan has two children, Rudolph James and Rachel Lei. His wife, Dr. Lurleen, passed away almost three years ago from Multiple Myeloma.
