The Wright Brothers’ invention of powered flight in Dayton, Ohio, was a pivotal 20th-century achievement, making global travel possible and influencing both positive and negative outcomes. Known as the Birthplace of Aviation, Dayton and other Ohio cities inspired further innovations in flight. This program highlights those inventions and their creators.
Angie Hoschouer Berghuis is a historian, public speaker, community volunteer, and a lifelong Daytonian. She is a member of First Baptist Church’s Education and Heritage Committee and currently serves as the neighborhood liaison for the Grafton Hill Neighborhood Association and as the Marketing and Communications Chair for Preservation Dayton.
Additionally, Berghuis served as the development and marketing manager at Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum for nine years. While there, she created 22 programs and tours and has researched the histories of hundreds of Daytonians resting peacefully in the cemetery.
Berghuis has served on boards and committees or participated with the following community associations: Randolph Twp. Historical Society, Dayton Region Walk of Fame, University of Dayton Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, Sinclair Community College – College of Lifelong Learning, and Aviation Trail, Inc.
