This series is supported by Richard and Cheri Hahn. \n \nThirteen British colonies on the Atlantic Coast rose in rebellion\, won their independence\, and established a new form of government that radically reshaped the continent and inspired centuries of democratic movements around the globe.\n \nAn expansive look at the war’s virtues and contradictions and the birth of the United States of America\, this documentary follows dozens of figures from a wide variety of backgrounds\, from the Continental soldiers and American militiamen to the British Army officers and enslaved and free African Americans. \n \n\n\n \n\n“The American Revolution: Conquer by a Drawn Game (January 1777-February 1778)" – Episode 4   \nAs America braced for a third year of devastating war\, British commanders launched campaigns to take Albany and Philadelphia. General Howe beat General Washington at Brandywine and Germantown\, while the Continental Congress fled Philadelphia. But the Americans’ surprising victory over General Burgoyne at Saratoga opened the door for France to support the United States officially.
