There are many ways to bring trees into our lives. We can plant seeds, propagate cuttings or spend a weekend at a local nursery loading the car with new additions for our landscape. For larger projects and trees, we often rely on professional landscapers with the equipment and expertise.
But who do the professionals call when a project requires truly large trees — the kind that look as though they’ve been growing beside the home for decades? In this program, we’ll explore the techniques, equipment and planning involved in selecting, transporting and planting these impressive specimens.
Our presenter, Tim Brotzman, is President and General Manager of Brotzman’s Nursery, Inc, in Madison, Ohio. Founded in 1955 by his parents, Charles and Dorothy Brotzman, the nursery remains a family-owned business involving Tim’s brother, Jeff; sister, JoAnna; wife, Sonia; and daughter, Hillary. Today, approximately 80 acres are cultivated with the assistance of six seasonal employees.
A 1973 graduate of the Ohio State University, Department of Horticulture, Tim has participated in numerous plant breeding programs, traveled extensively throughout the world, and contributed to a wide range of educational and horticulture initiatives.
Drawing on years of experience, he will provide a unique behind-the-scenes look at the specialized world of large-tree production and installation.
