All-Star Brass Bands

Lakeside welcomes All-Star Brass Bands to the Steele Memorial Bandstand at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 6 and 1 p.m. Saturday, June 8, as well as 2 p.m. Sunday, June 9 in Perry Park.

The organization was founded in 1986 by Dr. Eric Aho, a visionary director and musician who noticed an abundance of opportunities for string musicians but few for talented brass and percussion musicians.

Drawing inspiration from the time-honored tradition of the British brass band, Aho aimed to create an institution that exemplified the utmost standards of excellence, mirroring the renowned Brass Band of Columbus, where he held a position as a charter member and principal euphonium since 1984.

Today, the All-Star Brass Bands is a collection of the best high school and collegiate brass and percussion musicians in the area that perform together year-round.

Members have participated in the North American Brass Band Association Championships and other events across America, including the New York International Music Festival, Kentucky’s Great American Grass Band Festival, the Ohio Brass Arts Festival and Lakeside.

The All-Star Brass Bands stand as a testament to Aho’s enduring commitment to education and artistic excellence. The organization takes pride in its rich history and continues to nurture and inspire the next generation of talented brass and percussion musicians.

The event is finished.
