Bardin-Niskala Duo
Head over to Orchestra Hall for an evening of classical music with the Bardin-Niskala Duo Monday, Aug. 14 at 7:30 p.m.
This classical cello and piano duo is comprised of cellist An-Lin Bardin and pianist Naomi Niskala. The group uses contemporary classical music to explore identity, fight racism, promote cultural awareness and celebrate humanity.
Bardin and Niskala commission African, Latinx, Asian, Arab and Native American (ALAANA) composers to write pieces that incorporate folksongs and children’s songs of the composer’s particular cultures.
Through commissioning and performing these works, the duo seeks to promote these composers and open dialogue on notions of homeland, community and belonging, on the complexity and uniqueness of various cultures, and on the challenges of navigating life in this country as a bi-cultural, multi-cultural or minority person.
