Get Growing!
These free educational and often hands-on weekly gardening programs are held every Thursday throughout the summer and feature guest speakers on a variety of topics. The Get Growing! programs are held from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Train Station unless otherwise noted and registration is not required.
Did you know there are more than five major types of hydrangeas which can provide blooms from late May through November? The florist type blues and pinks are just the tip of the iceberg.
In this week’s Get Growing! program, titled “Hydrangeas for Everyone,” join Eric Barrett to explore the many hydrangeas you should be planting for a more beautiful landscape and how to choose the ones that don’t require extra TLC. Learn to mix it up in the garden with different types based on their size, fall leaf color, bloom time and faded bloom colors. Barrett will share a simple, one-page chart to use in helping you choose the best plants.
Barrett is an Associate Professor & Area Leader with OSU Extension. He works with Master Gardener volunteers and Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalists, conducting more than 100 community programs each year.
His specializations are direct marketing and horticulture. Barrett offers simple solutions to improve gardens. He is a near-expert on hydrangeas, authoring factsheets and presentations. Teaching is his passion. Barrett presents across the state of Ohio, as well as the U.S. and Canada.
