Sunflower Art Display
The sunflower (or “soniashnyk”) is Ukraine’s national flower and has been grown there since the middle of the 18th century. Sunflowers are cultivated for their seeds, which are eaten as a snack, or crushed into oil, a key ingredient in cooking and an export product of vital importance. Sunflowers are also symbols of peace.
Lakeside Chautauqua is showcasing sunflowers as we begin the 149th season, joining the worldwide call to our community and leaders to plant the seeds again for a more peaceful future. Artwork displayed has been created by students from Andrews Osborne Academy as well as local students.
All are invited to contribute to this community art display. Art may be dropped off at Hoover Auditorium on Saturday, May 28 between 9 a.m.-3 p.m. There will also be a sunflower art creation station set-up in the Hoover Auditorium Lobby prior to evening programs where individuals may create a piece of art and a message of peace to be displayed.
