W.O.W. Sailing: Level 1
The Women on Water (W.O.W.) Level 1 (Beginner) Sailing Class will take place Monday, June 26-Friday, June 30 from 11:30 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Lakeside Sailing Center.
The goal of this class is to give the sailor confidence through understanding the points of sail, rigging, coming about and jibing, knot tying, and following a set course on a lateen dinghy (Sunfish) sailboat. At the beginning of Level I, there will be basic swimming and water treading tests, along with life jacket exercises.
Following class time, individually scheduled water instruction will be arranged between the student and instructor and will take about 20 minutes per student. Before a student sails on a Sunfish without an instructor, they will be taught the skills to right the sailboat by themselves.
Upon successful completion of the W.O.W. Level 1 class and exam, graduates will be considered a Skipper 1.
Classes are instructed by Celeste Cook Williams, a U.S. Coast Guard Near Coastal Master Captain, sailing teacher veteran, and co-founder of the Lakeside Sailing Center. Classes are certified by the U.S. Sailing Association. Please complete the preliminary intake form.
The event is finished.
