The Park District of Ottawa County is conducting a Marblehead Peninsula Trail Feasibility Study. The one-year study, which began in October 2023, will examine trail route options, assess overall safety, gather public feedback and provide guidance for future trail development.

The goal is to make the Marblehead Peninsula safely traversable by foot, bicycle and other non-motorized modes of transportation both for today’s residents and visitors as well as the next generation’s connectivity needs.

The study encompasses the whole peninsular region and will include a thorough analysis of the Village of Marblehead, Lakeside Chautauqua and Danbury Township.

The Park District of Ottawa County is the overarching entity responsible for outdoor recreation improvements within the county. Guided by its vision of connecting people, places and parks, the Park District selected OHM Advisors to conduct the feasibility study.

The study will use a public planning process, including online surveys, open houses, an assessment of existing conditions and a steering committee to determine the next steps.

The voices and opinions of local and year-round residents will be greatly valued and needed. Take the online public survey, which is available through May 3.

There will also be a Public Open House at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 18 at the Shores & Islands Ohio Welcome Center, located at 770 SE Catawba Road, Port Clinton. For more information, visit ottawacountyparksoh.org.
