Celebrate the luminous world of chamber orchestra music with the BlueWater Chamber Orchestra’s “Romantic Spirits of the Isles” concert, led by Artistic Director Daniel Meyer, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 23 in Hoover Auditorium. This concert features cellist Linda Atherton.

In preparation for the evening’s concert, join Charles McGuire for a pre-concert lecture at 6:30 p.m. in the Fountain Inn Aigler Room.

Meyer, a familiar face to Lakeside, also serves as the Artistic Director & Conductor for the Lakeside Symphony Orchestra and Erie Philharmonic. Known for his innovative programming, engaging presence and keen musical intellect, Meyer immediately connects with audiences of all ages.

The highly acclaimed BlueWater Chamber Orchestra is Northeast Ohio’s premier chamber ensemble. Now in its 13th season, BlueWater is committed to expanding the boundaries of what a chamber orchestra can be. Under Meyer’s leadership, the group is beginning a new era of lively, creative performance and educational experiences, making classical music accessible to those who might not otherwise have an opportunity to hear live concerts.

Reaching out to listeners via neighborhood-based programs that bring classical music directly to their doors, BlueWater performs at various venues across the region, including Plymouth Church in Shaker Heights and The Breen Center for the Performing Arts at Saint Ignatius High School in Ohio City.

Special educational and outreach concerts have taken the orchestra to Cleveland Metropolitan School District facilities, Rocky River and Mansfield.

Linda Atherton began playing the cello at age 9. She studied in her hometown of La Crosse, Wisconsin with Leigh Elder, until going to Boston University where she was a student of Leslie Parnas. After graduating, Atherton moved to Indianapolis where she became a founding member of the Lockerbie String Quartet. Before coming to Cleveland, she was a sub with the Indianapolis Symphony and played for numerous recording sessions of various artists.

Her solo appearances have included features with the Cleveland Chamber Symphony, Ohio Ballet, Trinity Chamber Orchestra, Euclid Symphony and BlueWater.

She was a participant in the Blue Hill Kneisel Hall and Taos Chamber Music Festival and is currently very active in the Cleveland chamber music scene as a member of the ART Trio and the Cleveland Chamber Collective. The latter has recently been featured on WVIZ/PBS on Applause in collaboration with Inlet Dance Theater.

This past fall, Atherton collaborated with members of BlueWater and Verb Ballets in a performance of the Schubert Octet. She has also performed chamber music concerts throughout Italy.

Atherton is currently a member of BlueWater, Cleveland Pops Orchestra, Trinity Chamber Orchestra and also plays with the Erie Philharmonic. She formerly played with the Canton Symphony, Ohio Chamber Orchestra, Cleveland Ballet and Opera Orchestras, and RED (an orchestra).

She is in high demand in the pit at Playhouse Square and has performed in more than 60 different musicals over her career so far. Atherton has collaborated in concerts with singers Johnny Mathis, Rod Stewart and Andrea Bocelli, among others.
