Documentaries: “Two Shall Become One” & “Lakeside Chautauqua: An American Treasure”

A double feature of special documentaries will be shown in Orchestra Hall starting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30.

First, Lakesider Steve Bailey will present his film, “Two Shall Become One,” immediately followed by a short talk. Then stay for a showing of the WGTE documentary “Lakeside Chautauqua: An American Treasure.”

“Two Shall Become One” is a personal film about Bailey’s father, John, who is a recent widower living alone and adapting to loss. John lives just outside the East Gate and has been coming to Lakeside his whole life.

The film is designed to be an intimate portrait that resonates with a larger audience through universal themes. Lakeside is a character in the film as it’s John’s home and the place that is taking care of him.

To celebrate Lakeside’s Sesquicentennial, we’ve partnered with WGTE, a Toledo PBS affiliate, to create a documentary titled “Lakeside Chautauqua: An American Treasure.”

Showcasing Lakeside’s history, the documentary is narrated by Lakesider and CBS News Correspondent Steve Hartman. It will also be shown at 6:15 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3 in Hoover Auditorium prior to the Summer Closing Celebration at 7 p.m.
