Fishing 101
Join Dave Kintner, a Lakesider with over 25 years of fishing experience, for Fishing 101. In this program, learn about Ohio fishing regulations, necessary equipment, types of bait, species of fish and what to do with the invasive Gobies. From May 24-Aug. 31, this program meets at the north end of the Dock every Friday and Saturday from 8-10 a.m., rain or shine, unless the Dock is closed.
This program is for all ages and does not require pre-registration. Children ages 12 & under must be accompanied by an adult.
Non-swimmers are encouraged to wear life jackets on the Dock. If you’re age 16+, you must have an Ohio Fishing License, which can be purchased at Lakeside’s Waterfront Rental Center.
Recommended equipment:
- Fishing Poles: One short pier pole for catching invasive Gobies and 1-2 poles for Sheephead fish
- Bait: Regular worms can be purchased at Sypherd’s Cycles or the Waterfront Rental Center. Small red worms are sold at Walmart in Port Clinton.
- Hooks: 10 very small hooks for Gobies and 10 large hooks for Sheephead (bass size hooks)
- Weights: One bag or small box of heavy fish weights, approximately the size of an adult fingernail
What will we be catching?
We’ll start off by catching Gobies with small pier poles and red worms. Next, we’ll use the small Gobies as bait on the larger poles with large hooks and heavy weights. You may catch Bluegill, Sunfish, Perch, Catfish and Bass. View Ohio Fishing Regulations.
