If you’ve ever listened to the Moth Radio Hour or heard a friend regale you with a fascinating tale, you already know the power of personal storytelling. It can be transformative to tell a true story from your own life, and it can be transformative for the listener as well.
In this five-day workshop for ages 14+, you’ll learn what constitutes a good personal story, how to choose the right one, how to craft it, and how to tell it live on a stage — without notes. The process can be very beneficial to you and those who hear it. Come celebrate what it means to be human.
Throughout this five-day workshop, you’ll:
- Learn what constitutes a personal story and how it differs from other forms of communication
- Learn how to write an effective personal story
- Learn the differences between written and orally presented stories
- Develop connections with other students and celebrate our shared human experience
- Learn something about yourself in the process
This workshop, led by Jonathan Scott, culminates with an evening share-out at 6 p.m. Friday, June 26 in Orchestra Hall.
Scott is the author of five novels and two collections of short stories. He’s also the founder and director of "The Time of My Life," a program that has been offering workshops and live events in personal storytelling since 2018. He’s held numerous workshops for all ages with a variety of organizations and at venues stretching from libraries to nightclubs.
