This five-day Juniors Sailing Lesson for ages 8-14 meets Monday-Thursday, with an examination on Friday. This class provides a fun, hands-on introduction to sailing. Designed for new sailors, this program teaches essential sailing skills in a supportive and engaging environment.
Participants will learn basic sailing terminology, fundamental techniques and proper rigging procedures. Instruction also includes practicing key sailing knots and understanding how wind and the sail work together. On the water, students will develop boat-handling skills by learning to steer, trim sails and maneuver safely using both the sail and rudder.
Safety is a top priority. On the first day, participants will complete a water comfort assessment and a capsize lesson, including a guided drill to build confidence and preparedness.
Prerequisite: Participants must be comfortable swimming in open water away from shore.
In the event of inclement weather, class will meet indoors at the Pavilion Annex, across the hall from Bluebird.
