This five-day Level 1 Sailing Lesson for ages 13+ meets Monday-Thursday, with an examination on Friday. Designed for both new and returning sailors, the course provides a comprehensive, hands-on introduction to sailing in a supportive and engaging environment.
Participants will learn more in-depth sailing terminology, fundamental boat-handling techniques and proper rigging procedures. Instruction also includes learning how to navigate different sailing courses in open water.
Safety is a top priority. On the first day, participants will complete a water comfort assessment and a capsize lesson, including a guided drill to build confidence and preparedness.
Prerequisite: Participants must be comfortable swimming in open water away from shore.
Children ages 8-12 who demonstrate the necessary skills may test into Level 1 rather than register in the Juniors Sailing Lesson.
In the event of inclement weather, class will meet indoors at the Pavilion Annex, across the hall from Bluebird.
