Join us for the Environmental Lecture Series in Orchestra Hall. The topic for July 15 is “Farmland Conservation Practices” with Fred and Carol Miller.
Lifelong farmers, the Millers bring generations of agricultural experience. Carol grew up on a dairy farm in Ashland County, and her family farm is in Crawford County, just south of Bucyrus.
Today, the Millers grow corn, soybeans and wheat using no-till planting and a range of conservation practices, including cover crops, precision fertilizer and herbicide applications, systematic field drainage, grass waterways and filter strips to protect soil and water quality.
In this lecture, the Millers will share how a farmland easement has supported the transition of their farm to the next generation and played an important role in their estate planning. They will discuss the benefits of farmland easements, outline requirements from state and federal agencies and highlight the role of local government and professional advisors in the process.
