Help brighten Lakeside during the return of one of the community’s favorite summer traditions. From Aug. 1-8, everyone is invited to celebrate Light Up Lakeside by decorating cottages, campers, porches, trees, shrubs and golf carts with lights.
Any type of illumination may be used, including string lights, lanterns, luminaries and inflatables. Whether your display is simple or elaborate, every light helps create a festive display of community spirit.
Light Up Lakeside was inspired by Grand Illumination Night, an annual lantern-lighting tradition that has been held on Martha’s Vineyard since 1869. The tradition came to Lakeside in the early 2000s, growing to more than 220 participating cottages, campers and businesses in 2014.
Participation is free, and no registration or special permission is required. There will be no judging or awards – just a community-wide effort to light up Lakeside and celebrate the summer season. Participants are encouraged to turn on their displays by 8:30 p.m. each evening.
