Lakeside welcomes Dr. Stephen Pavey, founder of Hope in Focus, as the Preacher of Church Financial Stewardship Week, Aug. 16-20. This week’s preacher is generously supported by the Hottenroth Family.

On Sunday, Aug. 16, Pavey will lead the 10:30 a.m. Hoover Worship Service. Musical leadership will be offered by Michael Shirtz and the Chautauqua Choir, with liturgy led by Rev. Kimberly Orr. Pavey’s sermon is titled "Cries of Sorrow,” based on Amos 5:15. He will lead Vespers by the Lake at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Steele Memorial Bandstand and Faith for Living Hour at 9 a.m. in Orchestra Hall Monday-Thursday.

Following the opening prayer, children ages 5–11 will proceed together to Bradley Temple for Children’s Church with Chip Richter, where they’ll enjoy a kid-friendly message, songs, crafts, lemonade and cookies. Preschoolers are welcome when accompanied by an adult.

Pavey is a visual storyteller, a contemplative and land guardian – all of which come together in the vocation of cultivating a way to see, in order to bear witness to the world both as it is, and as it could be. During his work with Hope in Focus, Pavey uses photography and cultural organizing to walk alongside the world’s poor and oppressed where Christ is found (Matthew 25), finding hope in our collective struggle for love and liberation.

Pavey earned his Master of Divinity from Asbury Seminary and a PhD in cultural anthropology from the University of Kentucky.
