This summer’s Religious Life Seminar series on Christian Biographies will explore the lives and thoughts of four prominent Christians who shared their message at Lakeside during its 150-year history.

On Monday, July 31 from 3-4:30 p.m. in the Train Station, we will introduce Dr. Georgia Harkness, a theologian and philosopher who visited Lakeside in 1942. Although not widely recognized today, Harkness was the first woman to obtain a full professorship in an American theological seminary.

She was known for being equally adept at going toe-to-toe with the greatest theologians of her day and expressing complex theological thought in simple terms accessible to the everyday layperson. Dan Moulton will lead us on a treasure hunt to rediscover the story of her life and legacy. A lecture will be followed by a group discussion based on some of Harkness’ key thoughts.

Dan Moulton was raised on the Marblehead Peninsula and retired here with his wife, Dia, in 2018.

Prior to retirement, Moulton spent 39 years in Michigan where he worked in various engineering positions at General Motors. In addition to degrees in physics/math from Heidelberg University and engineering from Ohio State University, Moulton studied business at the University of Michigan and holds a graduate diploma in Christian studies from Ashland Theological Seminary.

He enjoys adult teaching and has particular interests in historical theology and the intersection of science and religion.

The event is finished.
