Cleveland Shakespeare Festival presents “Learned Ladies”

Buy Pass & Parking

The Cleveland Shakespeare Festival (CSF) returns to Lakeside to Lakeside to perform “Learned Ladies” in Hoover Auditorium on Sunday, Aug. 7 at 6:30 p.m.

“The Learned Ladies” by Molière, is directed by Keira McDonald. As Shakespeare was to England, Molière was to France (though admittedly, Molière spent far more time in prison for this art). “Learned Ladies,” a satirical masterpiece as the last of Molière’s great plays, sees young Henriette in love, but not with the gentleman her mother and sister want her to marry. Will Henriette stay with her true love or be forced to wed at the whim of her family?

Now entering its 25th season, CSF prides itself in delivering rich and insightful theatrical productions directly to local communities. Attracting over 5,000 patrons every summer, CSF productions tour across greater Cleveland, performing outdoors in the beautiful parks of northeast Ohio.

With a history of bringing neighbors together and adding tremendous value to the diverse communities, CSF is a vital source of art and culture for all of Cleveland.

CSF’s mission is to further enrich Cleveland and its extended communities with the history, art, culture and educational wonder of William Shakespeare through theatrical productions of Shakespeare’s work absolutely at no cost to the public, which are accessibly produced with professional quality and the intention of inspiring audiences both old and young to enjoy, aspire and develop in their culture, community and collective humanity.

The emphasis of CSF’s local, professional artists is on making the words and poetry of each play accessible to family members of all ages and cultural backgrounds. These practices, all deeply familiar to Shakespeare’s original theatre, allow the plays to act as education, cultural initiation and contemporary entertainment. It’s an exciting way for our community to expand its understanding of classic theatre and recognize the art form’s value in today’s society. CSF believes that the power and inspiration of live theater has a positive impact on every life it touches. It is CSF’s desire to share this amazing gift with the communities the artists call home.

The event is finished.
