FLY Dance Company — The Gentlemen of Hip Hop
FLY Dance Company is pure fun, youthful energy, risk-taking movement, and clever choreography set to a mix of surprising musical selections. The entire family will be dancing in the aisles of Hoover Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 22.
FLY’s performance style is called “theatrical hip hop” — “theatrical” because acting is an essential element of the style. The group has been spreading their infectious theatrical hip hop around the world since 1992. Notable performances include Washington’s Kennedy Center, Miller Outdoor Theater, Jacob’s Pillow, Vail International Dance Festival, Lincoln Center and the Bob Hope Theater
FLY is what happens when street dance and classical music meet, but that’s not all. The group’s community outreach inspires an average of 50,000 kids annually with educational shows, residencies and workshops that are unmatched in variety and positive social impact.
For their Lakeside visit, FLY Dance Company will lead a Breakdancing 101 Workshop at 10 a.m. Friday, July 22 at the Pavilion Jennings East Deck. In this workshop, students will learn the fundamental moves to breakdancing, such as top rock, footwork, power moves, freezes, spins, drops and basic tumbling. All participants must wear clean, soft-soled shoes. Pre-registration is required through the Rhein Center. Visit lakesideohio.com/registration. The class fee is $5.
The event is finished.
