Botanical Babble: How to Talk like a Plant Scientist
These educational and often hands-on weekly gardening programs are held every Thursday throughout the summer and feature guest speakers and a variety of gardening topics. The programs are held from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. at the Train Station unless otherwise noted. Programs are free of charge and registration is not required.
Petioles, peduncles, and pedicles – oh my! The technical jargon plant biologists use can sound complex and intimidating but it helps them to better understand and categorize the massive variety of plants we encounter every day. But you don’t need a degree in botany to sound confident when talking about plants – even a basic knowledge of plant anatomy and terms can help in identifying species, recognizing plant families, and diagnosing issues in your garden. Join Lakeside’s newest gardening enthusiast, Kyle Bueter, as he provides an overview of plant anatomy from a botanist’s perspective.
Kyle is Lakeside’s new Director of Horticulture and a self-proclaimed plant nerd. Since graduating from Miami University with a degree in Botany, he has worked a variety of horticultural jobs in both botanical gardens and large scale production greenhouses – giving him a unique perspective on plants and gardening. He is brand new to Lakeside and is excited to meet all the fellow plant lovers in the community.
