Lakeside Chautauqua will host a Gospel Music Experience from June 8-9. Throughout the two-day event, there are opportunities to learn and sing with nationally renowned gospel producer, director and bassist Johnny Parker.

Parker will lead a presentation about the history, music, artists and the future of Gospel Music, titled “What is Gospel Music?” at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 8 in Orchestra Hall.

On Sunday, June 9, during the 10:30 a.m. Chautauqua Community Worship Service in Hoover Auditorium, the Chautauqua Choir will perform with Parker and his wife, director and vocalist Laveta Parker, as well as vocalists Ian Morgan and Khamilah Morgan.

All singers are invited to participate. Rehearsals will take place at 6 p.m. June 6 in the Fountain Inn Aigler Room, 4 p.m. June 8 in Orchestra Hall, 9:30 a.m. June 9 in Hoover Auditorium and 4 p.m. June 9 in Hoover for a culminating Gospel Music Concert later that evening. At 7 p.m. in Hoover Auditorium., all are invited to a stirring Gospel Music Concert featuring Pastor Anthony T. Parker, FAVOR, Parker, Ian Morgan and members of Lakeside’s Chautauqua Choir. This concert is supported by James E. Beardsley and Doris F. Beardsley.

Parker, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, was born into a family deeply rooted in faith and community service. With a passion for music and spirituality, he pursued his calling and was ordained as an Elder in the Church of God in Christ.

Currently serving as the Associate Pastor and Director of Music and Fine Arts at Rhema Fellowship Church, Parker brings over 30 years of experience as a music industry professional. He also showcases his talents as a bass guitarist, writer, composer and arranger. Parker’s expertise extends beyond music. He’s also a skilled event producer and artistic director.

He holds a degree from John Carroll University and boasts 24 years of experience in health and human services.

He has made significant contributions as the principal consultant for SHOCC, Ltd., focusing on community programming. In his consultancy work, Parker has collaborated with organizations such as the Tri-C JazzFest, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, NAACP and many others.

Driven by his commitment to spreading positivity through music, Parker, alongside Laveta, founded the Good News Concert Series, a platform aimed at uplifting communities through gospel music. This collaborative effort reflects their shared dedication to spreading joy and inspiration through music ministry.

Working with Khirye Tyler of Blacksuit Music LLC, Parker also co-founded the Red Hands Family Reunion Festival, an annual outdoor gospel fest that has become a cornerstone event in Cleveland, Ohio.

Lakeside Chautauqua is excited to present Parker’s Gospel Music Experience for the third year.
