Join us at 6 p.m. Sunday, June 25 in Hoover Auditorium for an evening of jazz standards with renowned vocalists Evelyn Wright and Michael Shirtz, joined by bassist Dwight Bailey and drummer Jerry Powell.

A professional vocalist for more than 30 years, Wright has been entertaining like no other in the styles of jazz, R&B and pop. She has opened for the likes of Mel Torme, Joan Rivers, Harry Belafonte, Bob James, Freddie Jackson and Regina Belle, among others.

Performing regularly at the Tri-C JazzFest in Cleveland, she was awarded the Jazz Legend Award from Tri-C in 2008. Additional awards include Best Female Vocalist in 1985 in conjunction with public broadcasting station WCPN.

Wright has toured throughout the U.S. and Canada performing in the top nightclubs and concert halls. She had the honor of performing for First Lady Rosalyn Carter, General Colin Powell and Oprah Winfrey.

Shirtz is a performer, educator, composer and conductor, known for his versatility with jazz, contemporary and classical music audiences. As an entertainer, his vocal style and arrangements feature jazz, blues, funk, rock and singer/songwriter styles.

Credited as a “songsmith,” his shows highlight 20th-century American music and honor legendary artists.

Together, Shirtz and Wright make a unique singing team in performances of their solo and duet interpretations of favorite jazz standards.

If you love jazz music, take part in our Chautauqua Lecture Series, special performances and workshops this week. Pre-registration is required for workshops.
