Jazz Backstage – Jazz Drummer Tribute

On Wednesday, June 15, at 8 p.m., join drummer Jerry Powell along with Jackie Warren (piano), Sam Blakeslee (trombone), Dwight Bailey (bass), and Chris Coles (sax) to pay tribute to the legendary drummer Art Blakey and other jazz drummers. During this unique, interactive performance, the audience will join the musicians sitting on stage as they perform and share the music and stories of these incomparable jazz legends.

Jazz drummer and educator Jerry Powell takes us on a journey exploring the legendary careers of Art Blakely, and those he inspired through his famous band, The Jazz Messengers. About Jerry Powell…

An active multi-style drummer, Jerry Powell is one of the most sought after drummers in the Columbus, Ohio and Detroit music scenes. In addition to performance, Powell is an active percussion educator in central Ohio. Currently through the A+ Academy, he leads one of the largest drum lines in the state and is active in providing quality music education to students of all ages. His groups, the Jerry Powell Quartet and the Jerry Powell Experience are both eclectic bands that showcases a variety of talent and artistry with featuring some of the best vocalist and refreshing fusion of Jazz, Neo Soul, and R&B. Powell holds a Bachelors in Jazz Studies from University of Toledo.
