Lake Erie Science Series: Climate Change

Join Dr. Stephanie Green as she discusses climate change in this Lake Erie Science Series program on Tuesday, June 20 at 1:30 p.m. in Orchestra Hall.

As temperatures continue to rise around the world, species are on the move in search of cooler climates. When and where are they going? How will this affect our ways of life? Focusing on marine and freshwater fish, Green will discuss biodiversity changes in warming aquatic environments ranging from the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes and impacts on people that make their living in these ecosystems.

Dr. Stephanie Green is the Canada Research Chair in Aquatic Global Change Ecology and Conservation at the University of Alberta. A marine ecologist by training, Green leads international research on the impacts of invasive species, climate change, and habitat loss on fish in Canada, the United States, and the Caribbean. The author of over seventy-five scientific papers and books on aquatic conservation, Green’s accolades include the 2022 Earth Leadership Fellowship for her work on coral reef restoration and the 2019 Sloan Research Fellowship in Ocean Sciences for her work on climate-resilient tuna fisheries. Green completed her BSc at the University of British Columbia and her PhD in Marine Ecology at Simon Fraser University, both in Canada. Prior to joining the University of Alberta, Green held a Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship at Stanford University. Green has close connections to Lakeside, with her husband Mark Ferne’s family attending the Lutheran Chautauqua for over 75 years.

The event is finished.
