Lutheran Chautauqua Week | Chautauqua Community Worship Service: Dr. Jacqueline Bussie

Lakeside Chautauqua is pleased to welcome Dr. Jacqueline Bussie to lead the 10:30 a.m. Chautauqua Community Worship Service for Lutheran Chautauqua Week on Sunday, June 19 in Hoover Auditorium. This week’s preacher is supported in part by the 102nd Lutheran Chautauqua

Featuring music and the spoken Word, Michael Shirtz and guest artists will provide musical leadership during the service, while the liturgy is led by the Rev. Dr. Charles Yoost, Senior Director of Religious Life & Pastoral Care.

Following the opening prayer, children (ages 5-11) will proceed to Bradley Temple for Children’s Church with Chip Richter. There will be a message by Richter, songs, crafts, and refreshments to share. Children ages 6 and under are welcome if accompanied by an adult.

She will also lead Vespers by the Lake at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Steele Memorial Bandstand.

Dr. Jacqueline Bussie is an award-winning author, professor, theologian, and student of life in all its messy beauty, as well as a much sought-after speaker and workshop facilitator. Her first book, The Laughter of the Oppressed, won the national Trinity Prize. Her 2nd book, Outlaw Christian: Finding Authentic Faith by Breaking the Rules, won the 2017 Gold Medal Illumination Award for Christian Living. Her third and latest book, Love Without Limits: Jesus’ Radical Vision for a Love with No Exceptions, won the Reader’s Favorite Bronze Medal International Book Award for Christian Living, the 2020 IAN Outstanding Religion Book of the Year Award, and third Place IAN Non-Fiction Book of the Year Award. Also, Publisher’s Weekly named Love Without Limits is “a must-read for all Christians interested in inclusivity for their communities.

An active servant-leader in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Bussie spent the last 20 years teaching religion to undergraduates at ELCA colleges and serving as the director of the Forum on Faith and Life at Concordia College.

Today Bussie is the executive director of the Collegeville Institute in Collegeville, Minnesota.  Every day she is amazed and grateful that she gets to 1) write and tell her story; 2) empower other people to write and tell theirs; and 3) accompany marvelous people like you on your journey of faith, hope, and healing.

Church Pass

Guests are welcome to attend Sunday morning church services free of charge by requesting a complimentary Church Pass between 7:30-10:30 a.m. Sunday; valid until 1 p.m. The pass includes admission to Lakeside for guests and auto, but not access to the Grindley Aquatic & Wellness Campus pool.
