Mother’s Day Weekend Activities

There’s plenty to do in Lakeside Chautauqua this Mother’s Day weekend! From a delicious afternoon tea and Mother’s Day Brunch to a gardening workshop and outdoor fun, the whole family can celebrate Mom all weekend long. During your visit, enjoy a stroll around Lakeside to admire the blooming flowers and explore Lakeside’s shops and restaurants.

Saturday Afternoon Tea & Sunday Brunch

Lakeside Table & Tearoom, formerly known as the Hotel Lakeside Dining Room, is offering two opportunities to celebrate Mother’s Day weekend. Treat the special women in your life to a proper Afternoon Tea on Saturday, May 13, and Mother’s Day Brunch on Sunday, May 14. Receive 10% off if you make reservations for both Saturday Afternoon Tea and Sunday Brunch.

Guests who make a Mother’s Day reservation will be entered into a drawing for a chance to receive a Mother’s Day basket valued at more than $200. The basket is filled with tea accessories, loose-leaf teas and gift cards to Lakeside businesses.

Mother’s Day Brunch

With beautiful views of Lake Erie and the Islands, join us for Mother’s Day Brunch in the Lakeside Table & Tearoom. The Brunch Buffet boasts a prime rib carving station, traditional breakfast fare, chicken, fish, pasta and a variety of hot sides, salads, desserts and more. Plan a Getaway to Lakeside

This Mother’s Day, treat Mom to a special weekend getaway to Lakeside! We’re offering a two-night stay at the Fountain Inn for $199 (+tax) on Friday, May 12 and Saturday, May 13. This offer is only available until May 5, 2023.

Gardening for Moths: A Regional Guide
7 p.m., Orchestra Hall
As part of Lakeside’s Birding Week, join us in Orchestra Hall for a series of lectures and movies. Though seldom seen due to their nocturnal nature, moths are every bit as beautiful and charismatic as their butterfly cousins. More importantly, moths and their caterpillars are food for birds, bats and countless other insects. In this lecture, we will take a photographic journey into the fascinating world of moths while also exploring which of our native plants are most enticing to these lovely Lepidopterans.

Chelsea Gottfried is a naturalist and nature-based preschool teacher for the Crawford Park District in north central Ohio. Additionally, she is an avid native plant gardener, passionate entomologist and co-author of Gardening for Moths: A Regional Guide.

Good Morning Wellness
7:30 a.m.-12 p.m., Wellness Center Drackett Hall
Experience meditation, yoga and chakra balancing through tones and light scents. The morning begins at 7:30 a.m. with meditation and ends with community connection, tea and snacks. In between, participate in three classes: 8-9:45 a.m. All-Levels Sivananda Yoga (includes Relaxation Class), 9:15-9:45 a.m. Relaxation: Chakra balancing through tones & light essential oils, and 10-11 a.m. Chair Yoga.

Pre-registration is not required, however, there is a cost to participate: $25 includes all three classes (8-11 a.m.), $15 includes All-Levels Sivananda Yoga (8 a.m.) or Chair Yoga (10 a.m.) combined with Relaxation (9:15 a.m.), or participate in Chair Yoga only for $10. Check-in and payment can be made at the Wellness Center Front Desk. Cash or check only, please. Doors open at 7 a.m. Please arrive on time. Yoga mats and props are available. Bring a water bottle and dress in comfy layers.

Community Forum

Stay informed this summer and join the Lakeside Chautauqua staff and Board of Directors for a series of Community Forums. The first gathering is set for Saturday, May 13 in Wesley Lodge. All are invited to attend. Pre-registration is required.

Finding Our Way through the Arts Workshop
9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Fountain Inn Aigler Room (pre-registration required)
Spring is a season of new beginnings. Join Dr. Deforia Lane and Michael Shirtz in Lakeside on Saturday, May 13 for a special workshop to revitalize and reinvigorate the soul. In this Finding Our Way through the Arts Workshop, learn how music and art are vital to living a vibrant, fulfilling life and walk away with everything you need to connect, learn, grow and heal.

The Workshop (ages 16+) takes place from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 13 in the Fountain Inn Aigler Room. Registration is $35 per person and includes participation in the workshop, supplies, lunch and refreshments. Space is limited, so register early.

Design Your Own Container Garden Workshop

Let your imagination loose with tips on how to design and plant a stunning container garden for your home or patio. Loretta Wilken, Lakeside’s Master Gardener, leads this engaging workshopdiscussing container selection, soils and plant material. Pre-registration is not required. All are welcome to learn and be inspired.

Chair Yoga
10-11 a.m., Wellness Center – Drackett Hall ($10 drop-in fee – cash only)
Chair Yoga is a gentle form of yoga. All exercises and postures are done seated in a chair or standing using the chair to aid with support and balance. Benefits include improved strength, flexibility, balance, mobility, circulation and stress reduction.

Shuffleboard
12-4 p.m., Bettinger Park
The shuffleboard courts in Bettinger Park are open Saturdays this spring. There’s no cost to play.

Miniature Golf
12-4 p.m., Bettinger Park
The miniature golf course in Bettinger Park is open on Saturdays this spring. The cost is $4 per person (ages 5 & under are free).

Bird Walk
1-2 p.m. Meet at the Train Station Patio
The Lake Erie shoreline is renowned for viewing all kinds of birds, attracting birdwatchers from around the country, especially during the spring and fall migrations. Join local birding experts Martyn and Morgan Drabik-Hamshare to learn why the region is so important. We will hike around Lakeside’s nature trails and parks, help you find and identify birds and learn interesting facts along the way.

Some species you may expect to see include bald eagles, Baltimore orioles and northern cardinals. If we’re lucky, we may also find ruby-throated hummingbirds, purple martins and any of the 40 species of neotropic warblers that migrate through the region.

Please bring binoculars, as a limited number will be available to borrow. Suitable footwear should be worn for this walk. Appropriate clothing should be selected based on the day’s weather conditions. Read more.

Enjoy this free evening movie in Orchestra Hall. Three men find that they have come to a turning point. Stu (Steve Martin) faces a late-life crisis, Kenny (Owen Wilson) is in the gripe of a midlife crisis, and Brad (Jack Black) is wallowing in a no-life crisis. Determined to kick-start their stagnant lives, the three men decide to enter a prestigious contest. During the course of one calendar year, the friendly rivals cross North America in a quest to count more species of birds than anyone else. (1h 40m)

Lakeside Daisy Garden
In early May, an ordinary-looking patch of gravel on Ohio’s Most Beautiful Mile bursts into bloom. The bright Lakeside daisy (Hymenoxys herbacea) is one of Ohio’s most spectacular wildflowers. This long-lived perennial grows where few others can, on nearly barren limestone rock in full sunlight. Lakeside is fortunate to have its own patch of Lakeside daises. Read more.
