Join the participants of the New Horizons International Music Association (NHIMA) Camp at Lakeside Chautauqua for their final concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28 in Hoover Auditorium.

The camp is led by Linda A. Hartley, Professor of Music at the University of Dayton, and Jim Adkins, Director of the New Horizons Bands of Summit and Stark Counties. The band will play a mix of classics, modern, show tunes and sacred music.

Members of the camp will come from five states/provinces throughout the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest and Ontario, Canada, to enjoy the camaraderie of making music together. Many have participated in other camps across North America through the years; some are first-time campers.

The New Horizons program commenced over 30 years ago and has spread throughout North America plus a few in Australia and Europe. In North America alone, there are currently 175 groups. Camps are designed for a variety of experiences, including bands, orchestras and choruses.

Ohio has five New Horizons groups, and the conductors for this concert are each affiliated with their own groups.

The New Horizons music programs provide an entry point for adults to reacquaint themselves with the instruments they left behind after high school or college or to start a new instrument. Although the initial target group was senior adults entering retirement, there are no age restrictions to be a member of your local group.
