Power of the Pillars: Education

With Lakeside Chautauqua’s 150th Anniversary just around the corner, we’re excited to introduce you to Lakeside Onlinea new way to connect with friends year-round, explore the Chautauqua experience from the comfort of home and catch a sneak peek of what’s in store for the Sesquicentennial Celebration next summer.

From December through April, join us to discuss books written by next summer’s visiting authors and speakers and participate in virtual conversations with the Chautauqua Pillar Directors and an Advent Study.

The Education Pillar provides numerous weekly opportunities for learning and growth for all ages. The Chautauqua Lecture Series theme weeks, Science Rocks!, programs on wellness and gardening, and living history presentations have provided weekly inspiration with the Education Pillar. In this ‘Power of the Pillar’ presentation, learn what we have planned for next summer at Lakeside, plus what’s new.

John Mann, Director of Education, will share information about nationally recognized thought leaders and authors who will provide weekly keynotes, as well as the addition of a weekly children’s music program and Writers & Authors workshop series. Join us and get ready to plan your week of learning and fun this summer at Lakeside Chautauqua.

John Mann is the Director of Education for Lakeside Chautauqua and has been with the organization since 2014. Mann holds a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Toledo. Previously, he was the Manager of Human Resources for the Sears & Roebuck retail store in Sandusky for four years. Mann served as the Director of Human Resources for Lakeside Chautauqua for seven years before transitioning to his current role in Spring of 2021. He is a member of the Erie County Area Safety Council.

The time-period that Mann finds the most interesting in American history is from the 1880’s through the 1930s and has a deep love of the Great Lakes and their history. He and his wife Emily met in high school, married in 2007 and their interests have rubbed off on each other. She enjoys hunting for rocks, shells and beach glass and it is not uncommon to find the Manns scouring fields or beaches for specimens. John enjoys boating in their 1972 24-foot fiberglass Lyman which has stayed in his family since his father ordered it new. They also both enjoy exploring small rivers and lakes with their 1951 13-foot Lyman which they came across at Kelleys Island a few years ago. He finds relaxation in traveling to the Lake Erie islands and going for a swim or cruise around Sandusky Bay.

The event is finished.
