Reality Day with Huntington Bank

This summer, Huntington Bank will host a Reality Day in Lakeside. A Reality Day introduces children and teens to everyday financial decisions through career exploration, financial education and the hands-on experience of making monthly budgeting decisions.

There will be two sessions for different age groups held on Thursday, July 27 at the Wellness Center Drackett Hall. Middle schoolers are invited to the 1:30-3 p.m. session, and high schoolers are invited to the 3-4:30 p.m. session. Pre-registration is recommended by emailing allyson@lakesideohio.com.

For this learning experience, Huntington Bank has partnered with the FDIC’s Youth Money Smart program to teach financial strength through saving, smart spending and budgeting. Each session will start with an interactive lesson on smart money decisions, followed by each participant being assigned a life scenario, complete with a job, family status and credit score.

Students then visit booths and, using a simulated checking account, pay for necessities, including housing, childcare, taxes, education, transportation, utilities, groceries and other expenses.

The program concludes with a discussion around the importance of career decisions and the power that students have now to play for a financially fit life.
