Robin Echols Cooper: ‘Stories From Around the World’

Robin Echols Cooper will take Lakesiders on an animated journey as she spins “Stories From Around the World” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 19 in Orchestra Hllin celebration of Juneteenth.

Echols Cooper’s unique style of bringing characters to life through vocal characterizations and singing will captivate the imaginations of all ages. From China to Africa, the tales are about building community, strength, kindness and peace. Audience members will be invited to help retell a story using hand-crafted puppets made by Echols Cooper. They will also create music and sound effects to bring the colorful story to life.

Echols Cooper grew up on a small farm in Chardon, Ohio, where she enjoyed listening to songs and wonderful stories. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications with minors in art and theater from Ohio State University. She has been telling stories professionally since 1992. She presents creative, specialized workshops in the art of storytelling.

Echols Cooper was an instructor in Early Childhood Education teaching a course in Fine Arts at Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio. For many years she was a teaching artist for Arts Learning Inspired Learning in Northeast Ohio. She has volunteered for several organizations, including Elefence International, creating stories that would bring awareness to the plight of the African Elephant. She has also been a volunteer at Reach Out and Read, an organization for which she sat on the board of directors for many years.

Echols Cooper is the president of Literature Leap LLC, whose aim is to excite children about reading through the arts. She is also affiliated Women in History, Young Audiences of Greater Cleveland, Inc., The National Association of Black Storytellers and The Cleveland Association of Black Storytellers, Inc.
