Tennis Clinic with JoAnne Russell & Steve Vaughan
Lakeside Chautauqua once again welcomes tennis professionals JoAnne Russell and Steve Vaughan to lead a Tennis Clinic from June 21-24 at the Williams Tennis Campus. Players of all ages and ability levels can benefit from improving their skills while enjoying camaraderie with fellow tennis players at this popular clinic.
Sessions will be set up in 75-minute time slots and organized according to skill level. Players should arrive 15 minutes prior to their session. Check back on May 15 for registration information.
JoAnne Russell has been playing tennis since childhood capturing a national collegiate doubles championships before launching her professional career. She acheived No. 1 in the world doubles rankings in 1977 after a stunning victory in Wimbledon ladies’ doubles with Helen Gourlay. Playing on the pro circuit until 1988, Russell was also tapped by major TV networks as a broadcast commentator for Grand Slam and WTA events. Never losing her competitive drive, she won three Grand Slam master’s crowns in doubles and captured a World Cup singles title in 2009. From 1998 to 2005, she served as assistant coach at the University of Illinois, earning ITA Big 10 Assistant Coach of the Year honors. As a USTA-certified High Performance Coach, Russell has worked as a teaching pro since 2005.
Steve Vaughan has been involved in tennis as a competitor, coach and director throughout his life winning the 1973 North Carolina State Championship in high school and serving as team captain at Clemson University. After college, he served as a tennis pro at several country clubs in Columbus, Ohio. In 1984, Vaughan moved to Naples, Florida, and worked as the Director of Tennis at Quail Creek Country Club and Director of Grey Oaks Country Club. In 2015, Vaughan was hired as Director of Tennis at The Player Club & Spa and has been a member of the USTPA for nearly 40 years. Steve’s children are tennis professionals as well and he and his daughter have ranked no. 1 in the nation as a Father/Daughter team.
