A Long Time Part of The Experience
In 1963, under the leadership of Lakeside’s Executive Director, George Beebe, the miniature golf course was built in Central Park, now Bettinger Park. Sitting only 50 feet from the shoreline, the location and tree canopy make the course pleasant, even in the heat of a sunny, summer day.
Since the 1960s, Lakeside’s various miniature golf obstacles at each hole have evolved, and the putting greens have been repaired and replaced throughout the years. The obstacles today include two loop-de-loops, a skee-ball game, a vortex and a “return to me” feature. A pachinko game was also added, where the putter’s ball is dropped through a series of pegs. A replica of Perry’s Monument was also created and added to the course.
In 1984, the first hole-in-one tournament took place, and more than 150 individuals participated. Today, many Lakeside families make it an annual tradition to plan a miniature golf tournament during their visits to the lake.
