Ohio Jazz All-Stars
The talented performers comprising Ohio Jazz All-Stars take the Hoover stage on Thursday, June 16 at 7:30 p.m.
Honoring the famous Jazz at the Philharmonic series, join Sam Blakeslee as he leads a night of jazz featuring Chris Coles, Dwight Bailey, Jerry Powell, Evelyn Wright, Jackie Warren, Michael Shirtz and Charles Saenz.
Jazz at the Philharmonic was produced by Norman Granz beginning in the mid 1940s-1980s. This incredible series is responsible for bringing jazz out of the club scene and onto the concert hall stages – making jazz artists regular household names, such as Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Oscar Peterson, Ray Brown, Lester Young, Stan Getz, Louie Bellson, Roy Eldridge, J.J. Johnson, and so many others.
These concerts started in the U.S. but soon found themselves in tours crossing the globe and launching the popular careers and famous recordings by these legendary musicians.
Jazz at the Philharmonic presented performances featuring each of the individuals and then combined all the players at the end for a group jam, or the “All-Star” performance. This concert features all Ohio artists paying tribute to the great nights in the halls of a Jazz at the Philharmonic program.
See Chautauqua Jazz Week Experience for more information about events happening throughout the week.
The Chautauqua Jazz Week Experience is made possible by the Ohio Arts Council’s 2022 Arts Resiliency Initiative Community Grant. The Ohio Arts Council is funded in part by state tax dollars allocated by the Ohio Legislature. The OAC is a state agency that funds and supports quality arts experiences to strengthen Ohio communities culturally, educationally and economically.
