Chautauqua Jazz Week Experience

The Chautauqua Jazz Week Experience is a new program inspired by the musical art form and lifestyle of Jazz. Featuring artists-in-residence and guest musicians at Lakeside, this week includes a series of opportunities for music students, educators and enthusiasts to celebrate Jazz through participation and attendance at workshops, sessions, lectures, concerts and interactive performances.

Exploring the music from its roots through its influence in today’s modern genres, students of all ages and the community will explore the impact of this art form, its legends and innovators, hallmark recordings and compositions and its everlasting cultural exchanges on the world stage.

The Chautauqua Jazz Week Experience hopes to engage new audiences and renew music enthusiasts in a deep appreciation of our nation’s African American musical heritage that has inspired history, developed artists and musicians from all walks of life, made contributions and influences in genres that define the 20th century and beyond and enriched a global impact of unity and cultural exchange.

The Chautauqua Movement embodies the lifestyle that is found in the essence of Jazz — engaging in one’s creative interests, quest for knowledge, spiritual rejuvenation, and overall well-being.

The Chautauqua Jazz Week Experience is made possible by the Ohio Arts Council’s 2022 Arts Resiliency Initiative Community Grant, the largest grant Lakeside has received from OAC. The OAC is funded in part by state tax dollars allocated by the Ohio Legislature. The OAC is a state agency that funds and supports quality arts experiences to strengthen Ohio communities culturally, educationally, and economically.
