Paul Reiser

Multi-talented comedian, actor, television writer, author and musician Paul Reiser shares comic observations on his life and career on Saturday, Aug. 5 in Hoover Auditorium.

Prior to Reiser’s comedy act, Jerry Popiel will play music from the 1970s through today to open the show at 7:30 p.m. Popiel is a singer, songwriter and guitarist from the Indie rock band Cat o’ Nines and the 1970s tribute band Cowbell Fever. Popiel has served as an opening act for Sister Hazel, The Fixx, Ambrosia and the Girl Named Tom concert last year in Lakeside.

Throughout Reiser’s prolific career, he has a long list of successful television shows, both in front and behind the camera. The multi-faceted actor first starred with Helen Hunt in the Emmy, Peabody and Golden Globe-winning “Mad About You” in 1992.

Reiser currently stars in Netflix’s mega-hit “Stranger Things” — the company’s biggest series of all time — where he plays Dr. Sam Owens. He’s also in the Hulu comedy “Reboot” and joined season three of “The Boys” on Prime Video. Reiser starred with Michael Douglas in the award-winning Netflix comedy “The Kominsky Method” which ended a three-year run in 2021.

On the big screen, the veteran actor has garnered praise for notable performances in films such as “Diner,” “Bye Bye Love,” “Aliens,” “One Night at McCool’s,” two “Beverly Hills Cop” movies and “The Thing about My Folks,” which Reiser wrote for his co-star Peter Falk.

Reiser co-created and co-produced “There’s Johnny!,” a seven-episode series that originally streamed on Hulu and now streams on Peacock. The show, a fictional story set behind the scenes of Johnny Carson’s “Tonight Show” circa 1972, was co-created with filmmaker David Steven Simon and co-produced with director David Gordon Green in conjunction with The Carson Company.

Reiser’s first book, Couplehood, sold over 2 million copies and reached the No. 1 spot on The New York Times bestsellers list. His subsequent books, Babyhood and Familyhood, were best sellers as well.

Voted by Comedy Central as one of the Top 100 Comedians of All Time, Reiser regularly performs sold-out standup at venues nationwide.
