Farmers’ Market
8:30 a.m.-12 p.m., Lakeside Schoolhouse
Stop by the Farmers’ Market to shop for the freshest ingredients. Local growers always bring the best variety of seasonal produce, baked goods, cut flowers, honey and more. 

LHS Recycle Sale
9 a.m.-5 p.m., South Auditorium
Support the Lakeside Heritage Society (LHS) by attending the Annual Recycle Sale. Want first dips on this year’s merchandise? Early bird hours are 9-11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 1 with $5 admission. All proceeds help support the Heritage Society’s mission to preserve, promote and advance the history of Lakeside, the Marblehead Peninsula and the Chautauqua Movement in America. Historic Tram Tour
10:30 a.m., Hotel Lakeside Lawn
Learn about the history that shaped the community we experience today. Along with facts and dates, the tour includes anecdotes about key figures and their impact on Lakeside’s history. Reservations are $5/person and are available to purchase at the Lakeside Chautauqua Administration Office, cash only. The tram has only 9 seats, so early registration is strongly encouraged.

CLS: Documentaries with Steve Bailey
10:30 a.m., Orchestra Hall
A filmmaker and teacher, Steve Bailey is curious and always looking for interesting stories to tell. As part of the Chautauqua Lecture Series, Bailey will show two documentaries in Orchestra Hall. “Driving Indiana” is a documentary about cars made in Indiana and “The Deaners of Fairmount” is Bailey’s most recent film that gives an inside look into the fandom of the late movie star from the 1950s, James Dean.

Volunteer Appreciation Dessert Reception
1-3 p.m., Wesley Lodge
Lakeside volunteers are essential to the quality of the Chautauqua experience. We’ll recognize and celebrate the service and commitment of our volunteers at this reception. Rhein Center Open Studio
1:30-3:30 p.m., Rhein Center
Rhein Center Open Studio allows guests to participate in the fun, creative atmosphere of the arts center without registering for classes. Stop by to buy an item to paint and decorate or perhaps drop into a class with no registration required.

World Affairs Forum
3:30 p.m., Train Station
The World Affairs Forum presents an opportunity for thoughtful discussion on international events and ongoing world issues. The dialogue is to promote further learning about world affairs and is not a political forum.

Pop-Up Dance Jam
5:45-6:15 p.m., Walnut Plaza
Let loose, groove to the beat and meet new friends at this Pop-Up Dance Jam. There will be a variety of repetitive choreographed movements from various music genres led by Hanna Fidler.

The Chozen Few
7 p.m., Hoover Auditorium
The Chozen Few is back by popular demand to put on a show like no other to kick off Lakeside’s Labor Day weekend entertainment. These talented musicians and vocalists provide an explosion of music with a set list that spans every genre – pop, rock, country, Motown and more.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 2

Labor Day Weekend Sailing Race
8 a.m., Lakevue Marina
Weather permitting, all participants are to meet at Lakevue Marina, located one mile outside the W. Second Street Gate at 8 a.m. for a skipper’s meeting to determine the course. The Labor Day Weekend Sailing Race starts promptly at 9 a.m.

9 a.m.-5 p.m., South Auditorium
Items for sale include housewares, linens, furniture, lawn equipment and more.

Luke Witte Basketball Clinic
10 a.m., Bettinger Park
Former Ohio State University and Cleveland Cavalier basketball star Luke Witte leads a Basketball Clinic over the holiday weekend. Youth ages 7+ are invited. Pre-registration is not required, and there’s no cost to participate. Simply show up at the Bettinger Park basketball courts and plan to learn some new skills.

The Music of Billy Joel starring Michael Cavanaugh
7 p.m., Hoover Auditorium
Michael Cavanaugh is the new voice of the American Rock & Roll Songbook and a charismatic performer and musician made famous for his piano/lead vocals in the Broadway musical “Movin’ Out.” Handpicked by Billy Joel to star in “Movin’ Out,” Cavanaugh evokes a style rivaling the Piano Man. 

Fireworks
9:15 p.m., Lakefront
Following Michael Cavanaugh’s performance, fireworks will offer a spectacular finale to the day. A barge will launch fireworks near the north end of the dock, weather permitting. In the case of inclement weather, fireworks will move to Sunday, Sept. 3.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 3

Lakefront Worship Service
8:30 a.m., Steele Memorial Bandstand
This informal worship service includes prayer requests, Christian hymns, contemporary songs, an inspiring message and the Sacrament of Holy Communion. The service is led by Rev. Dr. Scott Wilson, Lakefront Worship Coordinator, and Rev. Dr. Charles Yoost, Senior Director of Religious Life & Pastoral Care.

Lakeside United Methodist Church Service
9 a.m., Lakeside United Methodist Church
This traditional church service offers a vibrant style of worship using inspirational songs and motivational words. The service is led by Rev. Karen Graham.

Community Worship with Rev. Luke Witte
10:30 a.m., Hoover Auditorium
Lakeside welcomes Rev. Luke Witte as Guest Preacher. His sermon, “Are You In or Out,” is based on Mark 5:1-20. Featuring music and the spoken Word, Michael Shirtz and inspiring guests provide musical leadership, while the liturgy is led by Rev. Dr. Charles Yoost, Senior Director of Religious Life & Pastoral Care. After the opening prayer, children are invited to meet Chip Richter for a procession to Bradley Temple for Children’s Church.

Labor Day Weekend Cookout
12-2 p.m., Hotel Lakeside Lawn
Celebrate the end of the summer at the Labor Day Weekend Cookout. The menu features grilled favorites of hamburgers, brats, hot dogs and shredded chicken, with sides of macaroni & cheese, baked beans, potato salad and chips. Water and pop are also available.

Music: Bonnis & The King
12-2:30 p.m., Pavilion West Deck
Bonnis & The King closes out lakefront music for the season with a performance on Sunday, Sept. 3. The duo plays a wide range of music including Americana, country, soul and swing. 

LHS Recycle Sale
1-5 p.m., South Auditorium
Items for sale include housewares, linens, furniture, lawn equipment and more. The sale on Sunday is half-price.

Kids Setting Sail
2:30-4:30 p.m., Lakeside Sailing Center
Volunteers from the Society of Old Salts provide free sailing rides for children (ages 5-10), weather permitting. Those who participate are given Sunfish boat rides courtesy of veteran sailors.

Heidelberg University Marching Band
2:45 p.m., Hoover Auditorium Porch
The Heidelberg University Marching Band will gather on the Hoover Auditorium Porch at 2:45 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3 and then march to the Steele Memorial Bandstand for a concert at 3:15 p.m. The band, under the direction of Rodney Miller, will play a variety of marching band music.  

“Lakeside Chautauqua: An American Treasure”
6:15 p.m., Hoover Auditorium
To celebrate Lakeside’s Sesquicentennial, we’ve partnered with WGTE, a Toledo PBS affiliate, to create a documentary about Lakeside’s history. The documentary, narrated by Lakesider and CBS News Correspondent Steve Hartman, will be show prior to the Summer Closing Celebration. 

Summer Closing Ceremony
7 p.m., Hoover Auditorium
The Summer Closing Ceremony begins with music from Chip Richter, John Wilkie, Michael and Pamela Shirtz and the Chautauqua Choir. During the celebration, we’ll also seal the Sesquicentennial Time Capsule containing a collection of memorabilia from this milestone year. To conclude the evening, Lakesiders will light a candle of hope as we look toward the next 150 years at Lakeside Chautauqua.

MONDAY, SEPT. 4

LHS Recycle Sale
9 a.m.-12 p.m., South Auditorium
Items for sale include housewares, linens, furniture, lawn equipment and more. The sale on Monday is by donation.

ADMISSION & PARKING

Lakeside Chautauqua requires guests and residents to purchase a Chautauqua Pass and Auto Pass to enter the grounds between May 26-Sept. 4, 2023. There are a variety of passes to choose from depending on the length of your visit. Guests ages 4 & under and 90 & older enjoy free admission. View 2023 Admission & Parking Fees.

Purchasing a Chautauqua Pass includes admittance to the grounds, as well as access to entertainment in Hoover Auditorium, the Pool (on a first-come, first-served basis), Wellness Center, and a variety of religious, educational, cultural arts and recreational opportunities.

For your convenience, purchase Daily and Weekly Chautauqua Passes and Auto Passes online. You can also purchase passes at the Hoover Ticket Office, located at 115 W. Third Street, or upon entering the gates of Lakeside. All passes are valid from the day of use until 7 p.m. the following day.
