Lakeside 120 Bicycle Ride

On Friday, July 11, nearly 100 cyclists will ride into Lakeside’s East Second Street Gate to the Pavilion Circle, completing their sixth 121.7-mile trek from Delaware, Ohio.

Started by Lakesiders Sean Gill and Brian White during the pandemic, the Lakeside 120 (or LKSD120) aims to introduce the area to new people.

In past years, the ride has honored founding members of Lakeside, including Gill’s great-great-grandfather, Samuel Richard Gill. The ride continues to pay homage to Lakeside’s origins by beginning its journey on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University, where two of Lakeside’s founders attended college.

The ride also supports the Cleveland Angels, a locally based charity that raises money for foster families. Each cyclist donates $15-$50 to the Cleveland Angels, and spectators and families are invited to consider donating at cleangels.org/lakeside120.

“Though we are not specifically set up as a charity, our final goal is to have every bit of registration money go to the Cleveland Angels,” Gill said.

Help welcome the cyclists as they ride through the East Second Street Gate, down Second Street and into the Pavilion Circle around 5 p.m.

This year, the LKSD120 is inviting kids to lead them through the east gate to the finish. If interested, children should meet at 1226 Wesleyan, at the curve just outside the east gate, at 4:45 p.m.

Lemonade will be served under a canopy, and the first 50 kids will receive free “I RODE THE LKSD120” T-shirts. Parental participation is welcomed.
