CLSC: Multiple Book Reviews

The Lakeside Chautauqua Literary & Scientific Circle (CLSC) will meet this summer for round table discussions, book reviews and a graduation.

The Multiple Book Reviews session will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4 in the Fountain Inn Aigler Room. Below are the books being reviewed:

– Detra Bennett: The Gifted School by Bruce Holsinger
– Dave Blank: Shakespeare in a Divided America: What His Plays Tell Us About Our Past and Future by James Shapiro
– Cindy Grimm: Why Trust Science? by Naomi Oreskes
– Francine Stetz-Feick: Making Toast: A Family Story by Roger Rosenblast
– Sue Steinke: China Dream by Ma Jian, Flora Drew (Translator)

The second and final Round Table Discussion of the summer is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11 in the Fountain Inn Aigler Room. The book to read is titled, Begin Again: James Baldwin’s America and Its Urgent Lessons for Our Own by Eddie S. Glaude, Jr. The discussion leaders will be Lynne Hudson and Peggy Malone.

The New York Chautauqua Institute CLSC was formed in 1878 to support reading and learning about nature, art, literature, philosophy and science. The New York Chapter provides a reading list each year, from which the local members choose two books to read during the off-season for discussion at the Round Table Discussions each summer.

The Lakeside Chapter of the CLSC was re-established in 2006. Membership in the CLSC is open to anyone interested in reading, learning and discussing a variety of literary works, both fiction and nonfiction. For additional information, please contact Dolly Andler at
