Lenten Study: The Return of the Prodigal Son

Religious Life

the return of te Prodigal Son coverLakeside invites you to “come home” during the Season of Lent and join us for a Virtual Lenten Study. We’ll examine the familiar story of two sons and their father, as told by Jesus (Luke 15:11-32). We’ll also focus on Jesus’ story, a Rembrandt painting, and beloved spiritual writer Henri Nouwen’s “The Return of the Prodigal Son: A Story of Homecoming.”

This parable, Rembrandt’s painting and Nouwen’s book invite us to reflect on our own journeys of wandering, repentance, reconciliation and compassion. What does it mean to you when you sing, “I once was lost but now am found…?”

Our discussions will be led by the Rev. Dr. Tom Frost and Kate Philibaum. The Rev. Dr. Frost is a retired United Methodist pastor, spiritual director, former attorney, and he leads Lakeside’s weekly Centering Prayer group. Philibaum serves as the Director of the HeART Gallery, located in historic St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in downtown Toledo, and is an accomplished organist, longtime Lakesider, and a familiar face at programs offered through the Rhein Center.

The study will consist of five weekly sessions on Wednesday evenings starting at 7:30 p.m. on March 9 through April 6. Although advance reading is not required, participants will find it helpful to read Nouwen’s book, “The Return of the Prodigal Son: A Story of Homecoming” (click on title to purchase online).

Register today by calling the Lakeside Administration Office at (419) 798-4461 or emailing programming@lakesideohio.com. The deadline for registration is Monday, March 6.
